Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES)

Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) is the use of electrical current to produce a functional movement or series of movements.

It is used in combination with the child’s active – functional activity, either in individual activities for the upper or lower limbs or in more complex activities, such as walking.

This functional electrical stimulation aims at neuromuscular stimulation in order to quantitatively and qualitatively maintain muscle mass and improve muscle strength and overall functionality.
